Pole Position for Nick

Pole Position – Ready to go!

Pole position is a great position to be in when you are just about to start running your own business. This preparation is a huge positive that goes with joining a strong and supportive franchise business.

Pole Position – The Background

Nick Fewlass has recently joined Ed’s team to run his franchise gardening business in Byfleet, Surrey. Indeed, only a stone’s throw away from Brooklands, the famous historic spot where British motorsport began. And so, being in pole position is pretty topical!

Nick comes to Ed’s with a wealth of gardening experience. Indeed he is joining Ed’s having worked for a large private estate for a number of years.

We are happy to welcome Nick to our great team. We look forward to seeing him develop his new business and take it from strength to strength.

Pole Position – Current Status

Nick is all fired up and ready to go. He has completed his initial training. Furthermore, his vehicle and kit are purchased. His van is branded. Nick has his marketing in place to fuel the season ahead. Furthermore, Nick has attended his very first team training session last week. There, he had the opportunity to meet a wide range of Ed’s business owners. This week, he has been spending some time out on the road with Andy, our business owner in Milton Keynes (North West).

It seemed a good time to catch up with Nick and to ask him how he is feeling about his new challenge…

General thoughts?

“Well, first of all, I’m thrilled to be part of the Ed’s team. It’s true that I do have a lot of gardening experience. However, I am also humble enough to know that a gardener is constantly learning and that every garden is indeed different. And so, whilst I am already a bit of a whizz with a mower or a hedge cutter, the business side of things is totally new to me and I am pretty much starting from scratch. That said, I am already very encouraged that there is a lot of support for me across the board. In summary, every day is a school day! I’ve had first hand experience already of the range of support Ed’s offers. If something is worrying you, just pick up the phone and have a chat about it and set your mind at rest. It’s a great way to learn how to run your own business.”

What are your short term plans?

“Furthermore, I consider building a successful gardening business up to be a marathon rather than a sprint. Success is built on hard work and developing strong relationships with customers. That takes time to establish and being part of a great team helps me to calibrate that and not put myself under silly pressure. I want to get my foundations right so I have a very strong business.”

How has your initial induction gone?

“I can’t believe how open and supportive everyone I have met in Ed’s has been. The group training session last week was an excellent example of this. I was a bit apprehensive about meeting lots of seasoned and established business owners as the newbie in town. I shouldn’t have been! Everyone was so welcoming, helpful and enthusiastic. The collective business experience in that room was jaw dropping but I was made to feel very much part of the team. So many offers of ‘Just give me a call if I can help in any way’. It was quite remarkable!”

“Similarly, I spent some time out on the road with Andy in Milton Keynes earlier this week. Andy could not have been more helpful and we had a great time working together. We worked hard and had great fun – two things that I thrive upon.”

How are you feeling right now?

“I would say that I am much more excited than nervous about getting started now. I feel I am ready. To be honest, I am even more excited now than I was when I first signed up. Now that I have been shown the ropes, I am starting to really get a sense of the scope of the great opportunity I have ahead of me with Ed’s. I have also already seen a really good Ed’s business up close. What I want feels within my reach. I genuinely do feel that I am in pole position to push ahead and develop a strong franchise business with all the support behind me.”

We wish Nick all the very best with his new business and look forward to sharing news of his success in due course.
