Gardening Business in Ashford – Ed’s welcomes Theo

Theo Karachristos has recently joined Ed’s to run his gardening business in Ashford, Surrey. Ed’s is delighted to welcome Theo to the team.

We caught up with Theo to talk about his Ed’s experience so far…

Gardening Business in Ashford – Theo’s background…

“I grew up in Greece and was always very much involved with the land and really enjoyed that. I worked as a grape producer when I lived in Greece. However, I’ve always been quite intrepid and really wanted to travel and live abroad to widen my horizons.”

The route to joining Ed’s…

“Once in the UK, I trained as a chef and subsequently worked in the hospitality sector. I enjoyed the buzz and pressure of the kitchen and the customer focus of the job. However, I also hankered after a more outdoorsy life of a more physical nature. I also wanted more freedom to enjoy life as well as enjoying work. I thought about setting up as an independent gardener but knew that I would get much further as part of a successful franchise. When I looked more closely at the options, Ed’s was the obvious route for me. As soon as I made this decision, I was keen to get on and get established with my business.”

The early days…

“As it worked out, I ended up signing my Ed’s contract just before the country went into lockdown. My initial reaction was that my timing could have been better. However, when I thought things through I realised that I was much better off in start-up mode with a franchise in a pandemic than going it alone. I wouldn’t have lasted five minutes as an independent starting out in that situation!”

The verdict so far…

“As it has worked out , I’ve been supported so well since joining and I’ve made a really good start with my business. In Ed’s we are very fortunate that we were able to work through the lockdown as responsible gardening is safe. There has been no shortage of work at all and I’m now in a position where I feel that my business is really starting to take shape. I really love the job. I love the variety and the physicality of it and I love the fact that I have always got lots of work to be getting on with.”

The future…

“I feel that the level of work flow I have means that I am very positive about the future outlook for my business. It was definitely the right decision to join Ed’s. If they can support you starting in a pandemic, I really believe they can get you through anything!”

We wish Theo all the very best with his new Ed’s adventure.
