Steve's Gardening Franchise Business

I am one of Ed's most experienced business owners, having been with the franchise for almost fourteen years. I've developed a lot of business and gardening knowledge in that time yet I still feel like I'm learning. There are lots of advantages of being part of Ed's but one I really do value is the freedom. My son was in New Zealand on a football training programme a while back and I was able to just decide to go and fly to the other side of the world to spend a month out there with him. It really was the trip of a lifetime and I'll never forget the special times we had. Ed's were very supportive of it. There aren't many jobs where you could do that.

Well, here I am coming up to my 10th anniversary as an Ed's Operator. My business and my children have certainly grown a lot but one thing stays the same - I still love cricket and, with Ed's, I've had the freedom to develop my youth cricket coaching in parallel with growing my Ed's business. I've recently got some prestigious awards for my coaching, which means a lot to me. I would never have had the freedom to achieve this in my previous job.

Maybe life does begin at 40. At 39, my career as a salesman in the motor industry was going nowhere. I loved gardening so I invested in an Ed's Garden Maintenance franchise. I liked the relatively low start-up costs and was given support in accountancy, marketing, business management and training. Within a year, I exceeded all my expectations. Five years later I have 70 regular customers and two staff and can afford to take time out to be a volunteer coach at a children's cricket academy. I've just signed up for my second five-year term with Ed's and my business supports the whole family, so my wife is considering leaving her job.
