I am now in my sixth year as an Ed's Business Owner. I've built a strong, strategic business that I am very proud of. For me, one of the key considerations in joining a franchise was the training, support and the team element. It's so important being able to tap into the collective expertise in our business. I do this as much as I can and find the Ed's training and support so valuable in helping me to make the absolute most of my business opportunities.

Having spent time in the Army, on leaving school I joined Cobham - an Aviation engineering services company - where I became Engineering Workshop manager and later Components Workshop manager. In 2013, having spent 23 years at Cobham, I was made redundant due to company re-structuring, so I took this opportunity to reflect on what I wanted to do. Whilst interviewing for new positions I realised that my heart was not in another job working for someone else. I have always loved gardening and it has been my way of switching off and relaxing outside my working life. I started to explore, via the British Franchise Association, various gardening franchise opportunities and liked the sound of Ed's Garden Maintenance. I didn't want to join the multitude of 'one man bands' offering gardening services in Bournemouth and felt that having the backing of an established brand such as Ed's, with all that it offers, would be the best way to enter the market place and make a success of my business.
